This is Bixby, a Neapolitan Mastiff that came to us with a prolapsed rectum requiring surgical intervention. Bixby is a gentle giant. We took him in at 4 months old and 50lbs, lanky and full of drool, barely fitting in all his skin! We fell in love. We got him through surgery, deworming and vaccinations, then found him a truly wonderful home. We continue to get regular updates from his new family on how well he is doing. He continues to grow and is loving life with his Mastiff housemate. We were lucky to have been a part of this wonderful boy's story, and even luckier we found him a home when we did - we were definitely getting used to having him around!

Handsome Kai, brindle Akita boy, came to use at 4.5 months of age. He had missed out on early socialization and as a result was quite terrified of meeting new people. He did not tolerate handling and his fear issues were quickly leading him in the direction of antisocial, potentially aggressive behaviors. We intervened the moment we met him and started a crash course in socialization and training. Within one week, Kai was becoming a different dog. By the time he was adopted, just 6 weeks later, Kai was a wonderful little boy! He was still a little shy when meeting new people, but warmed up very quickly and was overall incredibly sweet. He could be handled without any negative reaction, got along great with cats, and was an all around playful, happy boy! No signs of aggression! He had basic training and great leash walking skills to boot (thanks to amazing trainer Seth Lane). He made a total 180 and went to a loving, forever home - after receiving all his vaccines and being neutered, of course. We are so fortunate to have met him in time to turn his life around and show him how wonderful life with humans is! We will miss this boy, for sure.

This is Amai, Kai's litter mate. She had the same lack of socialization and fear issues as Kai. We knew that it would be a lot to try and give both of these pups the proper training and socialization they needed, since they each needed so much focus. We wanted them both to have full attention in order to quickly overcome their fear. Amai was also reported to have cat issues, so we could not bring her into our home like Kai (who did great with cats). So, we reached out to A Passion for Paws, an Akita rescue in Southern California. They kindly agreed to help us out. Before transporting her, we had Amai spayed and her eyelid fixed (she needed a surgery to correct her entropion - a turned in eyelid which is a deformity she was born with) as well as vaccinated. A friend helped us out with the transport and got her down to Southern California, where A Passion for Paws took over. Apparently, she did great with cats (go figure) and turned around quickly at their Akita ranch. She was adopted with another Akita, so will get to live her life with a friend! We are glad to have been part of her success story, and so appreciative of A Passion for Paws for taking her on!

Cocoa (top picture) and Cutie (bottom picture), two beautiful female Akitas, were very loved by their owner. However, due to an emergency situation he was unable to keep them. They came to us at 4 years of age, lacking in training (especially leash walking) but very, very sweet and social. We worked with them on basic training and leash walking skills, had them spayed and vaccinated, and rehomed them with an absolutely wonderful family.

These girls are now in their forever home, being loved and well cared for by their devoted new people. We are so happy to have been a part of their lives and helped them through this transition. Akitas are a huge passion for us and we are always thrilled at the opportunity to be involved with helping members of the breed. Cocoa and Cutie were excellent examples of the incredible temperament Akitas can have when raised and socialized properly!

Jasper was part of a "stray" litter. The mom and kittens were being cared for and housed in a garage - they were all very sweet and social despite being stray. Raccoons started picking off the litter one by one, until Jasper was the only kitten left. Mom got pretty badly beaten up by the raccoons as well, and ended up in the hospital for several days (she recovered well). The woman caring for the litter was unable to keep the racoons out and needed to find another situation for the remaining kitten! So, he came to me. It turned out that little Jasper had a broken leg (his left humerus). He healed well with cage rest and, after just a few weeks in foster care, went to a very loving home!

This adorable creature was rescued after being infected and becoming very ill with parvovirus. Bernard had a severe case and his prognosis was extremely guarded when treatment began, but the little guy managed to pull through against all odds. Bernard fully recovered and, after several weeks with an incredible foster family who trained and socialized him, went to a wonderful home. He is already quite the ambassador for his breed (pit bull) - he loves all people and animals and was becoming very well trained by only 12 weeks of age!  We were honored to be a part of his story.

This beautiful girl came to us because her owner could no longer continue to care for her. We covered the medical bills to get her through an acute toxicity, which she recovered from entirely after a few days in the hospital. She was a bouncy, happy, incredibly sweet and cuddly girl. She had mild separation anxiety which required some training by Seth Lane, but by the time she was adopted her behavior was well on its way to manageable. She won our hearts and we were sad to see her go, but so glad we had the opportunity to spend some time with her first. Meeka went to a wonderful home with a mother and 13 year old boy, who she bonded with instantly. It was a pleasure to help Meeka with her transition and see her off to a wonderful, forever home!

Ben was a joint effort with a pair of incredible veterinarians and St. Bernard Rescue. He was found wandering in a parking lot, malnourished and neglected, but very sweet. We fixed him up and the rescue found him a wonderful home!

Monkey
Monkey was a stray kitten caught at 6 weeks of age. She was a little feral at first, but she warmed up nicely after a few weeks of socializing. She is living the good life now! She is apparently very smart and a bit mischievous!

Picture
Kuru
bottle baby... quite possibly the cutest that ever lived! (OK, they are all adorable...)

Picture
Oliver
Toy poodle X
Oliver was a stray who came to us covered in mats and foxtails. He had several abscesses from foxtails embedded in his ears and on his head. We fixed him right up, got him neutered, and adopted him to a wonderful home!

Kittens!
bottle baby Roland and Suzannah, as seen below

Picture
Roland and Mia
Mia, Roland and Suzannah were stray kittens. Mia had been attacked by a wild animal of some sort when she was a few days old, though the other two were untouched. An incredible doctor decided that Mia deserved a chance to fight, so tiny Mia had surgery and we crossed our fingers. She took much longer than the other two to grow and start thriving, but she miraculously survived and went to a good home!

Wentworth
Brought in as a stray. Wentworth was born with cerebellar hypoplasia
, a condition that will affect his coordination and mobility for the rest of his life. He was a happy camper otherwise, and went to a great home with people who love him and understand his needs!

Picture
Batman
This guy did not like his picture taken! He was much cuter than this picture would have you believe. He was a stray we took in to keep Wentoworth company, and he quickly went to a wonderful home. He was devilishly handsome and very outgoing!

Mama kitty, Dusty, with her babies Marmelade, Buster and Posey.
Dusty was a stray that a wonderful woman was caring for and then decided to adopt. It turned out Dusty was pregnant! Her owner could not take in all the babies, too, so we helped her out. They all stayed with us until the babies were old enough for mama to leave, then we adopted them out. Dusty's owner ended up keeping little Marmelade, and the other two went to a home together. They are all doing great!
